Werner Hamacher (1948-2017) fue profesor de germanística y humanidades en Johns Hopkins y profesor de literatura general y comparada en la Goethe Universität, Frankfurt am Main, además fue profesor visitante en Freie Universität Berlin, New York University, Hebrew University en Tel Aviv, L’École Normale Supérieure, European Graduate School y otras universidades. Académico altamente influyente en la tradición continental, pensador poliédrico cuyo esfuerzo filosófico se basa en una lectura implacable de la metafísica, los conceptos y los fenómenos culturales occidentales. es un enlace entre las tradiciones filosóficas y literarias inglesas, francesas y alemanas: destacó como traductor de, entre otros, Jacques Lacan, Jean Hyppolite, Paul de Man, Nicolas Abraham, Jean Daive y Jorie Graham, y como editor de la serie de Stanford University Press titulada Meridian: Crossing Aesthetics, además de Paul de Man: Wartime Journalism 1939- 1943 (1988), Responses.
